Established in 1921, Helen Keller Hospital is one of the leading nonprofit health care service providers that serves the residents of northwest Alabama. It is a 185-bed facility that is owned and operated by the Colbert County-Northwest Alabama Healthcare Authority, a nine-member board comprised of local citizens appointed by the Colbert County Commission. Helen Keller Hospital s amenities include an intensive care unit, women s center, cardiac catheterization lab, cafeteria, gift shop and chapel. In addition, the hospital maintains the Helen Keller Hospitality House, which is a duplex that provides low-cost lodging for patients traveling long distances. Its staff includes more than 100 physicians who provide various medical services. Helen Keller Hospital is located in Hempstead, N.Y.
