Illumina is among the leading developers and appliers of novel genomics analysis solutions for gene sequence and expression information. Illumina serves the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and agricultural industries. Megaclone and MPSS are Illumina's unique and proprietary cloning and sequencing technologies. Megaclone's main function is to transform a sample that contains millions of DNA molecules into one made up of millions of micro-beads, each of which carries approximately 100,000 copies of one of the DNA molecules in the sample. MPSS rapidly identifies the DNA sequence of the molecules on each bead in a parallel process. Megaclone and MPSS are used together to clone and sequence a portion of each mRNA in a sample of cells or tissue. Illumina is headquartered in Hayward, Calif.
