The Hastings Police Department, established in 1858, is one of the oldest established police departments in Minnesota. It provides law enforcement services to a population of more than 20,000 residents. The police department employs a staff of over 25 full-time, licensed police officers, nearly 20 police reserve unit members, and approximately 15 civilians and community volunteers. Located in Hastings, Minn., the Hastings Police Department supports the Explorer program, which provides law enforcement education to students between the ages of 14 and 21. It cooperates with other agencies and offers emergency management services that deal with critical incident situations, such as natural disasters, tornado, severe storms and floods.
