I have been going to Max Fitness for the past three years because honestly it has been less expensive and closer to my work (as I workout during my lunch hour.) it's definitely not because of the superb facility or staff. Their elliptical/cross-trainers are always broken and rarely ever get fixed swiftly despite the 60 to 70 -ish dollar yearly fee for equipment maintenance they charge. Two water fountains -- one is usually broken. The ceiling and AC ducts leak randomly and buckets sit out to catch the water -- real nice. It's gets humid wand smelly when it rains outside. My lunch hour is at noon, so I change in the females' dressing room which had not be a problem until recently. When I arrive one of the new janitor hires would ignore my presence and keep cleaning. I politely asked if he could step out for me to change and appearing annoyed would do so. I spoke with the manager regarding this and it was addressed by a letter going to on the women's locker room saying it was closed between 12 and 1 for cleaning. This is literally the only time I can use my membership, so I have been walking in asking the guy to please step out so I can change for the past couple of weeks and again, he has done so. I feel like an annoyance every time I have to ask to change in a dressing room that is provided to be based on my payment for a years membership to this place. I was annoyed but dealing with it. Today, I walk in . . . I say hello and smile . . . he sees me. . . walks out. I start to change and I'm standing in the dressing room pants and bra only and he walks back in a minute after walking out WITHOUT announcing himself! I manage to get my sports bra on quickly and ask him curtly to step out as I am changing. He walks out without a word or an apology. Needless to say, I'm livid. Go to try to speak with a manager and neither is in he building. So here I am. I will ask for the remainder of my 6 months of membership back as a refund, a request they will probably not honor so I'm stuck having to see this dueche every day I come to workout? I don't understand why the do not hire a female janitor to clean our restrooms or maybe even a male who is more personable and has more sense. I would encourage anyone looking for a gym to pay a little extra and go elsewhere.

Max Fitness has definitely changed my life. Before becoming a member I weighed approx 300 lbs and today I am down to 220 lbs. and the weight keeps coming off. The trainers and my determination have pushed me to continue my quest for better health.

In response to the other review. I have been a member of cornerstone since last April. They have gone through some changes but I feel like they have addressed my concerns in a professional manner and to my satisfaction. They are a business and it doesn't make financial sense to stay open during hours when the demand is so small. It is the nicest, cleanest gym in the area and I am extremely pleased to be a member.

This club started off as a pretty impressive club for the valley. It has drastically changed. From the inception, it was 24 hours. Now, it's very limited in time, no longer 24 hours. Today, I waited 3 hours for someone to open the gym. Tomorrow, it is closed. This isn't the place for a die hard workout guru. You care about those that keep you open, even on off days, you have someone there to open the gym for devoted gym-goers. Or reduce the monthly rate for the days you want to take off and hang out at home. In Harlingen, not even a hello. I wish my other gym was still around!!!!! These folks have a lot to learn.
