Founded in 1969, Northwest Alabama Mental Health Center is a nonprofit organization that specializes in offering treatment for the intellectually disabled individuals. Based in Haleyville, Ala., the center contracts with the Alabama Department of Mental Health, other government units of the state, county and local governments, and industry to provide a range of outpatient and mental illness-related assistance, substance abuse-related counseling and children's services. The center provides a process and educational group therapy and individual therapy as well as the center offers a community outreach program and day treatment program. Some of its outpatient programs include psychiatric evaluation and medication assessment, prehospital screenings and crisis intervention.
