Clean Earth of Maryland (CEM) is a recycling facility spread over 13 acres near Hagerstown, Md. Using a chemical fixation process, CEM recycles nonhazardous petroleum contaminated soils, as well as construction and demolition debris. Rubble is screened and resold as aggregate on-site. It is part of Clean Earth, a company that provides a wide range of solutions for various environmental issues. The company has soil and waste treatment facilities in Carteret, N.J.; Hagerstown, Md.; New Castle, Del.; Friendly, W.Va.; and Morrisville, Pa. It processes 400,000 tons of petroleum contaminated soil per year. Clean Earth provides a wide range of services that include thermal desorption, bioremediation and dredge processing. Clean Earth is based in Hatboro, Pa.
