Established in 1859, the Griffin Fire Department is a full-service public safety agency that is responsible for fire suppression, prevention and investigation, emergency medical service, building inspections, hazardous material spills and fire apparatus maintenance. It employs more than 65 full-time staff members who are trained by the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council. The department provides specialized services for rescue, hazardous materials and first aid instruction. The Griffin Fire Department maintains an administrative division that handles the budget and planning for future needs, as well as coordinates training for the department personnel. Located in Griffin, Ga., it also has a fire prevention bureau that enforces local and state fire codes, investigates fires, and organizes public fire and life safety education classes.
