If you are seeking good communication, modest customization, and basic customer service from a builder, DO NOT BUILD WITH WINDSOR HOMES.We found a neighborhood that featured well-styled homes in an area that was desirable to us (Celo Knob). We met several times with the builders agent assigned to represent the property, Roy Crosier. The agent seemed wary from the start at working with buyers who wanted to build a home to suit and cautioned us from the get-go that Windsor would make very few changes to the basic floor plans they had to choose from. Knowing this is typical from mass production builders at this price point, we conceded we may have to give up on a few asks, but proceeded with the design process with Roy. From the outset, communication was a problem. At the conclusion of home tours or design discussions, there were often follow-up items that the agent promised to get back to us about, but we NEVER heard from him unless we initiated conversation via email, phone call, or a face-to-face visit to the property. In spite of this challenge, we were persistent and had worked over several months to negotiate a give-and-take some design options (no to a modification of the garage, yes to a modification in the master bathroom) and were down to a few final details to work out, such as pricing for a alternative fireplace design. For this feature, all we asked for was 1) if Windsor would be willing to build what we were seeking and 2) the price of the option if the answer was yes. We told the agent from the get-go that if they couldnt give us what we wanted, we would install a custom fireplace after closing on the house. We has made a similar allowance for the custom kitchen island we desired. After months of delay on this one answer, the agent emailed us instead of picking up the phone to answer our calls and informed us After several discussions with my sales manager Windsor Homes has decided not to build your home. After 3 months in the design process, they dropped us as a potential buyer via email. Frankly, the whole process was insulting and a significant waste of our time.We have since met with other builders and toured many homes. Comparing the quality of craftsmanship, it is obvious that Windsor Homes is lacking compared to other builders, but Windsor Homes is at the very bottom of the barrel with respect to customer service. Buyer beware.
