It was about 3 years ago that I was there. In that time I was new in the USA. I had purchased a car and was looking for somewhere to check tires. Unfortunately I found there and ask to check pressure air. After he took my car in, he came back and said there are 3 nail in your tires and you have to replace the tires, also you need alignment for $80. I asked to do alignment. Then he came back and said your tires are in a very bad situation and I have to fix your control arm and if you don't do it, you are in danger. He explained there is a cone washer that is $30 but the labor is $400 to change it. I was afraid, so asked to fix it also fix tires without replacement. Finally he charged me $550 and I came out, but the car had vibration. He told me it would be gone but it didn't. After a few days I called him and told him still the car has vibration. He said bring your car and I will fix it for no charge. So I did. He took the car inside and after an hour he left the store. There was a guy there who was working for him, came and said we fix your car and it cost $160. I asked to talk to owner, because it suppose to be free. He said, he left and I will call him. After a few minutes that guy came and said your problem was baring and we fixed that, here is United State and noting is free. Also he mentioned this is a NAPA branch and this is a company policy. Finally I paid because he said they don't release the car until I pay full price. Imagine you pay $710 in less than a week for a pressure air checking. Now, I understand here is United State and I should aware of most of mechanics, but there is customer service also.
Actually those tires still working and fortunately I didn't change tires in that time.
My daughter goes to school at UNCG. She took her car here to have the oil changed a week or so ago before leaving school to come home for the summer only to have the technicians try to up sell her over $1,000 worth of repairs! I am an ASE certified technician in Georgia and part of the crap they tried to sell her would never affect her car in a negative way. . . People like this give my industry a black eye.

My first visit was ok I just got used tires. The next week when I went back for an inspection my car ended up having more problems than the week prior the tires I got went totally bald and I was asked how many miles did I put on them. I've never went through tires in a week!!! He pretty much didn't have anything to say then priced me a piece for 797 went to the auto store 273 and 185 on eBay. This place is a rip off I'll never go back
Sorry for your experience. We don't currently check out a car when just purchasing used tires but you bring up a good point. We will discuss if it makes sense to check out cars completely , if just buying used tires, at this month's store meeting. Thank you, Chris
I have been using Chris almost as long as I have had my car. After using a couple of other places, I landed and settled on Chris because his prices were fair and his work reliable and speedy. As a single parent of two small children with a used car, I cannot do without my car and am short on funds. Until my last service, Chris was the only person I trusted with my car and my money. Yesterday, my car died in a parking lot and I immediately had it towed to Chris's. It didn't occur to me to shop around because I trusted Chris implicitly. When I got the bill, I was shocked to find out that the part was billed to me at twice its actual price. The same exact part can be bought for 220. He charged me 444. I was also charged for labor and diagnostics for a total of 670 before discounts and 641 after discounts. When I checked around, I found that I could get the same work done for 200 dollars less. When I called Chris to ask about this overcharging, he said that he has to make money on the parts as well, not just his labor. I understand that, but perhaps he doesn't need to make 100% profit off the part, especially from a person who has trusted him enough not to shop around and can't really afford this exorbitant mark up. On my previous recommendations, my sister and friends have begun using Chris. I will no longer be using Chris and will be sure to let others know of my experience so that they may be warned as well. Shame on you, Chris, for taking advantage of a loyal customer in need.

Spring Garden Tire and Auto will take great care of you. I've taken my car to them for my regular maintenance and they are always quick and reliable. They have a nice clean waiting area where I can catch up on my work while I wait, and they are always friendly and helpful.
I like the quick service and friendly attitude of Spring Garden Tire and Auto. Everytime I've gone I've been treated well and even when I've gone in for a routine oil change they've found serious problems with my car that I didn't even know about. Plus as a student I got a 10% discount which I think is great since the shop is so close to UNCG. They really know what they are doing there and the mechanics and technicians there know their stuff. I highly recommend this shop for all automotive repairs!
Went here for an inspection and was told it would require a $350.00 repair for something not even required by the state of NC in the Safety and Emissions Regulations Manual. Had to pay $23 to get my car back. Went to another inspection station and passed immediately! I'm a mechanic and I would NOT trust these guys with my car. I'm also filing an official complaint with the NCDOT. They are taking advantage of folks hoping to make a quick buck off inspections. Do NOT go there.
I apoligize for your experience. Many other inspections stations will allow you to pass to make a quick buck. We perform inspections properly, because it is the right thing to do.
The worst customer service experience I have ever had. I went in for a routine oil change and Spring Garden Tire and Auto forgot to put the cap back on. When I went to my car dealership to find out why my oil light kept coming on, they discovered the cap was gone. When I went back to confront Spring Garden, they denied all responsibility and told me it was my fault. I will NEVER go back!

No!! THESE GUYS ARE BETTER! I just took my wife's 2002 Chrysler 300M to them yesterday and I am more than convinced that they are one of "good guys" around Greensboro.
My wife's car was tuned by a car/tire shop downtown right before Christmas and, within 5 minutes of driving it off their lot, it ran hot. Took it back and they said it had a blown head gasket! Took it to two other shops and they "confirmed" that it was the head gasket. or intake manifold. One mechanice suggested Spring Garden Tire and Auto's, and after seeing their reviews, I decided to try them. I talked to Chris (actually got to talk to the owner!) and told him what had happened. I even asked him could he handle the whole replacing or rebuilding of the engine and he said they could do it. So we are planning on spending $3000-$4000 for the job. Imagine our surprise when Chris calls and says the thermostat is bad and, after replacing it, he can't GET it to run hot anymore! I had asked two of the threee other shops about the thermostat and cooling fans and they both tested and ruled that out. According to them, we defintely had to replace or rebuild the engine.
So instead of cashing in on the $3000+ job (that we were already prepared to pay), these Spring Garden Auto guys actually told the truth and gained some loyal customers on a $150+ job. With two kids just starting to drive their own cars, I can guarantee we will pay much more than $3000 in repairs and maintenance (4 cars total). I can guarantee that we will pay it at Spring Garden Tire and Auto. Their honesty, professionalism, speedy work and great communication are very much appreciated!
I have had the opportunity to go to Chris on a couple of ocassions and have been very pleased with his professionalism, knowledge and customer service. He was willing to work with me on price and the final tab was exactly what he told me it would be. The repairs were done right and quickly. I'm in the market for some tires now and he said to me he won't be beaten on price alone! I would highly recommend this company.
