- Unfair CompetitionWolf Popper LLP has filed a lawsuit against Natera, Inc. in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, alleging that the company’s billing practices are deceptive to consumers. Natera provides genetic testing services for women and couples who are pregnant or wish to become pregnant, including the “Panorama,” “Horizon,” “Vistara,” and “Spectrum” tests. The class action complaint alleges that Natera withholds the true price it intends to charge for these tests, even though it claims to offer “price transparency.” Instead, the complaint alleges that Natera falsely tells patients and providers that the out-of-pocket cost for these tests will not exceed $249. However, patients are later hit with exorbitant surprise bills that are hundreds or even thousands of dollars higher than this amount. The complaint brings claims on behalf of a nationwide class of patients affected by Natera’s conduct, alleging violations of the California Unfair Competition Law (“UCL”), the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act (“CLRA”), and common law. The complaint seeks refunds for patients who have been overcharged by Natera, and demands that Natera cease its allegedly unlawful conduct.
