General Info
The Sheldon Mansion, an Historic Inn, is an exceptional Bed & Breakfast, which has been lovingly restored to the original splendor of the gilded age of over a century ago. It was built in 1906 by slate baron Fredrick Sheldon on a beautiful 10-acre estate. Even then, people were pleasantly surprised by the inviting feel of such an impressive 34-room mansion. This wonderful Inn opened shortly after current owners Stephen and Marianne Lynch exchanged wedding vows on the Veranda and made it their residence. Since then it has provided a beautiful home away from home for hundreds of satisfied guests who have awakened to a magnificent breakfast. The Sheldon Mansion provides an exclusive sanctuary with only five guest rooms. Every convenience is provided including free WiFi. Each room is beautifully appointed and has a private full bath, blending historic charm with modern comforts. All of the rooms are subtly themed after area locations with antiques, artwork, books and memorabilia. The most impressive accommodation is the Granville Suite with a private sitting room. The Eagle Bridge provides a Grandma Moses theme. The Champlain celebrates the lakes region. The Saratoga has a collection of horse racing and casino heritage. The Arlington presents a Norman Rockwell theme. Breakfast is a special event and is served in the second floor solarium overlooking the village with lovely picturesque views of the mountains. Guests can also relax in Mrs. Sheldon's comfortable Sitting Room, mingle in the graceful Formal Parlor, or unwind on the sweeping Veranda. Mr. Sheldon's English Study serves as either a classic gentlemen's retreat or as a highly functional office for business travelers. The Formal Dining Room can serve as the setting for elegant catered events or special business meetings. The Inn and its grounds are available for special occasions or smaller indoor functions such as parties and business conferences. Innkeepers Stephen and Marianne provide personal touches and enjoy meeting the variety of guests and sharing their experiences. Many have traveled from around the country and even around the world and have marveled at this area's history and natural beauty. The Sheldon Mansion is a unique gem. It has been saved and restored to once again serve the area in the elegant manner for which it was originally designed. Rooms are surprisingly affordable and include a full breakfast.
