My son’s baseball organization had a fundraiser selling burritos the local through restaurant El Sombrero. It has been an extremely successful fundraiser and the team has been working with this restaurant for the past 3 years. It has come to my attention that one of the wet burritos sold by our group contained a pen wrapped inside it.

I immediately reached out to the owner and told him what I had just heard from one of the consumers. The owner responded “I’m sorry but things happen”. I paused and responded “and? “ The owner stated that he would refund the money for “that burrito” and that was all he was going to do. I was floored that he only offered to refund so little, especially after his initial response!

Our organization will NEVER do business with El Sombrero again. I am aware that several organizations in the area have repeatedly worked with this restaurant for fundraising. I strongly urge you to STOP working with this restaurant. We will find a business that is willing to rectify a wrong and continues to strive to put out a good product. A company responds with “sorry things happen” when an object is found in the middle of their food, is NOT a company that should be operating. It is not a company that should be working with children’s organizations for fundraising!

I strongly urge you to please pass this on and find a different restaurant to dine in /out of and do fundraising with.

Not the same as it used to be....

Not the same as it used to be. The burritos that we got were very small and were not what we ordered. This is two times in a row that we didn't receive our order correctly. We used to love their beens but something is different with their recipe now. We used to go there once or twice a week when my children were little, we all loved it. I doubt that we will be going there again anytime soon.

Great

El Sombrero is absolutely delicious. It is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Grand Rapids. My favorite menu item is the wet burrito. It's so good! The portions are generous and prices are reasonable

El Sombrero is a local favorite and highly recommended. The restaurant is owned and operated by a local, Grand Rapids family. This a unique, one of a kind restaurant; not a chain!! The tamales are the best in the City.
