The Gloucester Department of Social Services protects over 2,500 citizens from the impacts of poverty and social problems due to multiple financial and social work programs. Its services include child and adult protective, emergency and foster care services, as well as provides adult companion provider certifications. The department conducts custody investigations in contested child custody cases in determining parental capacity to meet the physical and emotional needs of children. The Gloucester Department of Social Services also provides day care services for children and supports a refugee resettlement program. It offers energy and fuel assistance and administers a food stamp program. Located in Gloucester, Va., the department works under the Virginia Department of Social Services.
