General Info
Achenbach's Jewelers opened in 1884 in Reading, PA by three brothers and in 1892 William T. Achenbach moved to Glens falls, NY and opened his own jewelry store. It was located at a 100 Glen Street in the Rugge Building at Sherman Square. After the fire of 1902 the Colvin Building was build and Achenbach's moved to the much nicer location in 1903. Mr. Achenbach retired in 1943 and sold the business to Joe Harney who owned it for many years until his son, Jim, took over. Jim Harney moved the store one last time and it is current location 220 Glen Street in the 1970s. Jim owned the business until he retired in 2003, when current co-owner Judy Pontiff took over. I, Joshua Murphy, came on board has co-owner in 2008. With our partnership and our experience together we are creating a wonderful shopping experience. I do not recommend this business for ANYONE. Lost jewelry on me, took her to small claims court and won. I had to go to her for payment. No social skills whatsoever, insulted my recently deceased husband, whose piece of jewelry she lost in the first place. Had to call a police officer into her business to get the payment granted by the Court. Sending letter to the State Attorney General office today. She does not deserve ONE star.
