General Info
A WORD ABOUT CAFCU California Adventist Federal Credit Union ( CAFCU ) was organized in 1952 as the first Seventh-day Adventist Credit Union in the country. Its charter allows us to serve Church members and the employees of the Church or Church Member owned business of all sizes and types. The Credit Union now touches thousands of present and past members all over the globe each year. Membership is open to individuals who wish to join but you must initially reside in California. Once a member, you can move and still be a member even through your move out of California. Our minimum dollar amount to open your membership is $152.00. $150.00 for the savings account and $2.00 is the fee necessary to process your paperwork. For privileges such as loans and services, beyond a savings account, the opening minimum is $252.00. Again the $2.00 is to process the paperwork. The third card is necessary and must be filled out for individuals wishing to establish a joint account. Home base in Glendale California, California Adventist Federal Credit Union provides services now through a new system of branches and a new organization structure now being added as this is being written. In 1986, Glendale Adventist Credit Union as it was originally named became a Federally Chartered Credit Union and the name was changed to California Adventist Federal Credit Union. This new association with the National Credit Union Administration made CAFCU eligible for participation in the federal deposit insurance program. All funds are insured up to the maximum permitted by law. California Adventist Federal Credit Union is member-owned and as such, is operated by a Board of Directors elected by the members. Each quarter, a Supervisory Committee made up of CAFCU elected members audits the activities of the Credit Union. In addition, each year the government's regulatory agency charged with Credit Union, overseeing audits ( NCUA ) CAFCU.
