Williams Olefins is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Williams Companies, which was founded in 1908 by the Williams brothers. The Williams Companies, through its subsidiaries, finds, produces, gathers, processes and transports natural gas. The company also manages a wholesale power business. The company operates nearly 14,600 miles of interstate natural gas pipeline and delivers nearly 12 percent of the natural gas consumed in United States. The Williams Companies purchased Transco Energy Company in 1995, which expanded its natural gas transportation system to the East Coast. It also acquired Barrett Resources in 2001. Williams Olefins is based in Carville, La.
