- Dental CareWe keep your pets healthy at Independence Animal Clinic through comprehensive dental disease prevention services. Your pet’s wellness is the result of regular dental care, including oral exams, wellness bloodwork, and thorough dental cleanings.
- VaccinationThe goal of vaccination is to develop and maintain both individual and herd immunity against infectious diseases. Commercial vaccines are available for rabies, encephalomyelitis (Eastern, Western, and Venezuelan), tetanus, influenza, equine herpesviruses 1 and 4, botulism, equine ehrlichiosis (Potomac horse fever), equine viral arteritis, rotavirus, West Nile virus, and Streptococcus equi (strangles). Vaccination programs are formulated based on the animal’s age, use, and level of exposure. Broodmare vaccination is important to provide active immunity for the mare and passive immunity for the foal via transfer of colostral antibodies. Vaccination guidelines for foals have been modified because of the interference of maternal antibodies with the initial vaccination response.
- Behavioral CounselingDuring your pet's behavior consultation, we will review your pet's history, provide a physical evaluation and diagnosis, and work with you to develop a treatment plan.
- Comprehensive ExaminationA good pre purchase exam takes into account the buyers expectations, the horses’ history, physical limitations and radiographic abnormalities. A thorough exam takes practice and experience in order to determine if a horse is suited for its intended purpose. Our job is to give the buyer the most information regarding the horses’ health in order to make the best purchase decision.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlWe follow the American Heartworm Society recommendations for yearly heartworm prevention and testing. No medication is 100% effective and drug failure can occur. We use the IDEXX 4DX Plus™ heartworm test which also screens for exposure to tick-borne diseases such as Lyme, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichia.
- Vomiting Treatment
- Diarrhea TreatmentParvovirus is a highly contagious viral disease among young dogs. It causes vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Because we now have a vaccine against this deadly disease, we recommend protecting your dog when it has all of its vaccinations. Like the flu vaccine for people, it does not mean the pet cannot have the disease. However, if the pet does catch the disease it may be less severe.
- Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
- Upper Respiratory Illness TreatmentAt Independence Equine, if your horse presents for a colic it will automatically be tested for parasites as part of the colic exam. We highly encourage farms to bring fecal samples in 2-3 times a year in order to determine when and with what medications we should deworm with. Foals often get forgotten until their weaned, we recommend starting as soon as 30 days of age, getting these foals on a schedule until they are will often prevent respiratory disease
