Thomas W. Wright, MD, received his bachelor's degree from Emory University and then attended the University of Florida, where he obtained his medical degree and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha. AOA is a medical honor society representing the highest ideals in medicine. Only the top ten percent of medical students are eligible to be elected to AOA.After completing his orthopaedic residency at UF, Wright attended the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery. He was board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1992. In 1993, he received his Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery and is certified through 2022.Wright is a professor of orthopaedic surgery in the division of hand and upper extremity surgery, as well as an affiliate professor in the College of Public Health and Health Professions, Rehabilitation Science.Wright has a comprehensive upper extremity orthopaedic practice with special interests in shoulder replacement, proximal humerus fractures, peripheral nerve injuries and complex elbow fractures.He is the director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Musculoskeletal Research and Training program and a member of the Department of Orthopaedics Research Advisory Team Committee.Wright has earned 13 grants, written more than 130 published works in refereed journals and published 14 chapters in orthopaedic textbooks. He edits publications for four orthopaedic journals and has performed numerous presentations internationally, nationally and locally.
