Founded in 1846, the City of Gadsden Police Department is a community-oriented police agency. The department operates a record bureau that provides information about incident reports, restraining orders, fingerprinting, arrests, accidents and firearm permits. The City of Gadsden Police Department offers the COPS in Schools program in schools. It operates a patrol division that participates in safety programs for schools, neighborhood watch and community outreach centers. It has an enhanced community safety team that uses proactive patrol techniques and community policing to provide a visible police presence to deter crime, respond to emergency calls and assist other units within the department when necessary. The City of Gadsden Police Department is fully accredited by the National Commission on the Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The department is located in Gadsden, Ala.
