Dr. Owais Idris is an interventional cardiologist, who lives his life with the mantra, “Do for others what you want done for yourself.” He has extensive training and experience in medicine, especially in preventing and treating cardiovascular disease. Dr. Idris graduated from the University of Michigan, Flint at 19 years of age and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. He then went on to medical school at the American University of the Caribbean – School of Medicine in St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. After completing his internal medicine residency at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, he went onto be a hospitalist in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Idris then went back to Toledo, Ohio for his cardiovascular disease fellowship, and most recently completed his interventional cardiology fellowship at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. His interests include high-risk coronary artery interventions, complete total occlusion (CTO) interventions, and peripheral arterial interventions. Nevertheless, he treats a variety of heart conditions, including hypertensive heart disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease (including aortic stenosis and regurgitation), arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation), and preventative cardiac care. He aims to improve his patients’ lives through education, implementation, and if needed, intervention. Dr. Idris is passionate in teaching patients, medical students, residents, and thrives taking on a leadership role to shape change in the new medical climate. When he is not at work, he tries to spend time with his friends and family, including his wife and 3 kids. He also enjoys competitive sports including tennis, football, basketball, and soccer. Dr. Idris is joining the HeartPlace team in Frisco.
