Established in 1905, the George L. Shields Emergency Department is the part of the Frederick City Hospital. The department provides critical care and emergency services that include treatment of patients with life-threatening medical disorders, including severe metabolic diseases, advanced pulmonary disorders, shock and postsurgical and trauma-induced complications. Its more than 20,000-square-foot facility includes 40-plus-bed treatment, general purpose, resuscitation, minor care treatment and gynecology rooms. The George L. Shields Emergency Department also has a full-service laboratory, a respiratory therapy department, medical imaging services, CT scan, ultrasound and general radiography. The department provides daily monitoring services, such as intravenous antibiotics, respiratory care, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, peritoneal and hemodialysis. The George L. Shields Emergency Department is located in Frederick, Md.
