Los Padres National Forest encompasses an area of more than 2 million acres. The forest features parks, lakes, museums, reservoirs, mountains, restrooms and campsites. It provides a range of recreational opportunities, including camping, fishing, hunting, shooting and picnicking. The forest serves as a habitat for several fish, animal, plant and bird species. Los Padres National Forest additionally provides various volunteer opportunities. The forest offers maps and brochures, as well as publishes a range of articles on wildlife-related issues. It also features woodland, grassland, semidesert areas and pinyon juniper stands. Los Padres National Forest is a part of the U.S. Forest Service, which is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The forest produces various minerals, such as gold, copper, zinc, chrome, antimony, silver, uranium, mercury, gypsum, limestone and bentonite.
