  Minimal sedation relieves the anxiety patients feel before and during their dental exam.  However, minimal sedation allows patients to respond verbally and physically to the dentist’s directions.  The patient will be awake but calm and may remember parts of the experience after the procedure is completed.

  Oral pathology involves diagnosing and treating diseases of the mouth such as cysts, tumors, and precancerous and cancerous lesions.  Many patients experience unusual changes in the mouth, teeth, gums, tongue, or throat that may be caused by disease.  Diagnosing diseases in the mouth as early as possible is very important.  The earlier a disease is diagnosed, the faster treatment and healing can begin.

  Occlusal, or bite, adjustment is a procedure performed to remove tiny interferences that keep teeth from coming together properly.  These interferences can prevent the jaw from closing in its anatomically correct position.  Interferences can develop as teeth develop, can occur following an accident, or they can accumulate over time with wear.  Dental work such as fillings, crowns, bridges, and extractions can also cause interferences.
• Bridges
  Implant dentistry brings many new tooth replacement options to the table, and Dr. Codelli gives his Blue Ridge patients a variety of treatments for their missing teeth. • Restorative Dentistry
  The procedure is similar to esthetic crown lengthening in that a local anesthetic will be administered. Small incisions are required to remove the gum tissue and reshape the area. When the procedure has been completed, the dentist will place sutures that will need to be removed in one to two weeks. After the area has completely healed (6-8 weeks), the final restorative dentistry such as a crown or bridge can be placed.

  A gingivectomy is usually performed when a patient has severe periodontal disease that cannot be cured with scaling and root planing or other periodontal procedures.   Osseous surgery, or flap surgery, is usually performed when a pocket around a tooth (or teeth) has not responded to other gum disease treatments.  The procedure is performed in order to create a clean environment around the tooth so that the tooth can be retained rather than lost.  If left untreated, gum disease can progress and lead to gum recession, bone loss and tooth loss and has even been linked to serious systemic health conditions like heart disease and diabetes.  Once gum disease has progressed to the stage of periodontitis, osseous surgery is the recommended gum disease treatment that can save your smile and your overall health.
