General Info
The Kentucky Oral History Commission is responsible for the documentation of the history and culture of Kentucky. It documents statewide, regional and community historical events through technical training for conducting oral history interviews and granting funds to support developed oral history projects. The commission provides a collection of more than 25,000 oral history interviews gathered by university programs and independent researchers. The Kentucky Oral History Commission s archives hold over 8,000 interviews and nearly 12,000 individual recordings. It offers access to oral history collections for scholars and students. The commission s recordings and transcriptions can be accessed in the special collections research room at the Center for Kentucky History. The Kentucky Oral History Commission is a part of Kentucky Historical Society, which collects, preserves, conserves, interprets, and shares information, memories and materials related to the history of Kentucky.
