The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, also known as DHBC, offers protection services for lives and properties through educational, licensing and inspection programs. Established in 1978, it operates a building codes enforcement division that manages manufactured housing, electrical licensing and elevator inspection sections and approves plans and specifications for the installation of escalators, moving walks, dumbwaiters and material lifts. The department s plumbing division reviews and approves construction plans. The department s boiler inspection section offers checking, installation and maintenance services for uninsured pressure vessels to prevent explosions. The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction is a part of the government of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
