The Division of Epidemiology and Health Planning is operated by the Department for Public Health of the state of Kentucky. The division is responsible for the control of communicable disease, disease surveillance and investigation, injury prevention and research, and vital statistics and health data maintenance. It operates a communicable disease branch that tries to eliminate, reduce and control certain communicable diseases. The Division of Epidemiology and Health Planning maintains a vital statistics branch that collects, preserves and protects certificates for births, deaths, marriages, divorces and induced terminations of pregnancies, as well as issues certified copies. The division supports several immunization programs that prevent and reduce the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases. It maintains a location in Frankfort, Ky.
