- Primary CareThe main purpose of a vascular screening is to evaluate targeted blood vessels for signs of blockages or plaque buildups that could potentially result in stroke and other vascular diseases. This preventative care is important to your overall health, as the early signs of vascular disease often presents no symptoms. Once the screening is complete, the results will be sent to your primary care physician to be shared with you. If your results are abnormal, Dr. Davison can meet with you one-on-one to discuss your treatment options.

- UltrasoundOne very common symptom of varicose veins is leg cramping. Often prevalent at night, leg cramping happens as a result from dysfunction of the valves inside the veins. There can be areas of increased pressure from non-draining valves. In addition, any fluid that has settled out into the leg tissues during the day tries to return at night. This means that there is more fluid to deal with and this changes the thickness of the blood. This then changes the way the blood is returned and it can cause local spasm. It can feel like a worm is moving inside the leg or be very sharp. Often, patients do not have any visible varicose veins and are diagnosed with other problems like restless leg syndrome. With a simple ultrasound, we can determine if failed valves are the cause.

- UlcerOne of the most serious complications of varicose veins is leg ulcers. These open sores on the leg are caused by inflammation, and too much pressure in the veins. The pressure is so great that the blood cannot exit the skin. As time progresses the scaring leads to even poorer blood flow. While ulcers often occur in elderly patients, they can occur in anyone with severe vein disease. If you notice leg ulcers, you should call us immediately, as treatment may take weeks or months before it is properly healed. In most cases, we can achieve initial wound closure of a venous ulcer in 30 days.
- EczemaItching and burning are also symptoms of varicose veins. The skin can demonstrate what looks to be severe dryness. The dryness is often diagnosed as eczema. This eczema is due to blood pooling in the legs. Since the blood cells cannot be cleared, the veins pull in surrounding water causing a dryness and sometimes redness to the skin in the area. While lotions can help, treatment of the veins can go a lot further in improving this condition. Burning is extremely common in people with vein disease from transient pain that improves with rubbing to full extremity discomfort.
