Located in Framingham, Mass., South Middlesex Opportunity Council is a nonprofit organization providing a wide range of community services. It works to improve the quality of life of low-income and disadvantaged individuals and families by advocating needs and rights; providing support services; educating the community; participating in coalitions with other advocates, and searching for new resources and partnerships. Its services include family and nutrition; mental health and substance abuse; housing and homelessness; energy and financial assistance and economic development. It offers various programs, such as after school, appliance management, elderly nutrition, housing assistance, internship, women s transition and Metrowest Harvest Initiative Program.
