The Framingham Fire Department is responsible for providing fire protection and prevention services. The fire department maintains a fleet of fire engines and a variety of fire fighting and suppression equipment. The Framingham Fire Department is also responsible for issuing fire permits and the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Its signal division maintains traffic signals, municipal fire alarm systems, master and street boxes, and underground and aerial cable systems. The fire department monitors and inspects interior fire alarm systems in new and existing buildings. It maintains teams that specialize in diving rescues and hazardous material handling operations. The Framingham Fire Department maintains several stations.
