Its several years that I had been to Angelos, Fort Worths iconic barbecue place. I decided to take out some ribs, and a BBQ sandwich. At around six P.M. this Thursday, 8-Jan-09, the restaurant was already pretty full, everybody seemed to have a good time. I looked at the people behind the counter: all new faces (except for the guy slicing the BBQ) the old guards gone I thought. I went home with 1/2 lb of ribs and the BBQ sandwich. At my first bite into a rib, I thought: Wow have my taste buds changed that much? I was in denial till I finally got the guts to face the truth: The ribs, in the past so juicy, tender and mellow, not only were a bit dry, but also unbelievably salty. I was glad to have ordered 1/2 lb (I had been tempted to get a full lb). Also, the meat on the BBQ sandwich was not completely cooked through. There goes the iconnow I can understand that its no longer Angelos but other BBQ restaurants in the area get the title best BBQ in town".

This authentic barbeque restaurant is a real treat.

A Fort Worth institution since 1958, Angelo's is famous for succulent smoked ribs, so tender that the meat falls off the bone, and for the stuffed bear that guards the front door. Arrive early, as they've been known to run out of ribs well before closing. The scent of wood smoke fills your nostrils as soon as you open the car door. Stride past hickory woodpiles as large as livestock pens to enter the Western saloon--style eating hall, replete with neon, mounted game heads, and snakeskins. The long hallway leading to the meat-order station is usually filled with lines of hungry folks hankering for a juicy, sweet stack of smoky beef or pork. Grab a longneck or a cold soda from the drink coolers that line the path and add a bag of chips or Fritos from the convenience store racks before bellying up to the counter and naming your meat; sliced or chopped, sandwich or plate are the qualifiers, and beans, slaw, potato salad and extra sauce are the sides, rattled off in monotone by regulars who know the menu by heart. For dessert, pick up a pair of Mrs. Bairds cupcakes or a fried pie. This is Angelos, Fort Worths revered barbecue mecca. Take it or leave it, sticky fingers and all.

Legendary Fort Worth Barbecue for Over 50 Years!

Angelo's serves beer the way it is supposed to be served, in an icy cold, frozen schooner with a chopped beef sandwich on the side. Walking into Angelo's takes you right back to a period in time where a major oil deal discussed over lunch could have been sealed between a couple of Fort Worth cowboys with a hand shake. Angelo's is a great place to kill an afternoon enjoying your favorite cold beer, eating some authentic Fort Worth barbecue, and looking up every once in a while to see the score of the big football game. If you plan on going over to Angelo's during the Fort Worth Stock Show, better get there early to stake out your favorite corner table. If you want to eat lunch among the last of the real Texas cowboys, Angelo's is the perfect place for you and your friends to enjoy.
