Operational since 1881, the American Red Cross has been one of the leading emergency response organizations in the world. Located in Fort Payne, Ala., it offers humanitarian care to the victims of war and natural disasters. In addition to domestic disaster relief, the organization offers community services and supports military members and their families. American Red Cross also supplies lifesaving blood/blood products and carries out educational programs for promoting health and safety. It is a charitable organization engaged in providing international relief/development programs.
