Venus Restaurant on Fenton Road (just a hop, skip, and a jump north of Hill Road) is a family-friendly place, serving food like your grandmother used to make. Since the nonsmoking law was implemented in May, eating there is a more pleasant experience. Most entrees come with three sides, one of which is a salad bar with many items offered to make a tossed salad. Several other salad bar offerings include, but are not limited to, cold baked beans, pickled beets, potato salad, macaroni salad, spaghetti salad, and more, all of which are usually fresh. We eat there frequently, sometimes just for pie - the slices are generously cut into pieces the size of a quarter of a pie! We are fond of coconut creme pie and lemon meringue pie, partly because the crust is so flaky and good. The fruit pies are low on fruit and heavy on crust which is over-baked and neither tasty nor flaky. Restaurant personnel are friendly, helpful, and accommodating and takeout is normally ready in 10 minutes. The place is clean, a 10% discount is given to seniors upon request, and daily specials are offered.
