General Info

Doney Park Water is a public service corporation and member-owned cooperative regulated by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and the Arizona Corporation Commission. We are an Arizona not-for-profit organization. We service a 44 square mile area northeast of Flagstaff, and currently provide water to over 3, 000 households and businesses.Doney Park Water was incorporated in 1936, when ranchers in the area came together to help each other with the water situation. Prior to that, there had actually been old western water feuds! One in particular comes to mind: according to the Coconino Sun Newspaper dated August 1, 1930, Mr. Ben Doney, a 90 year old rancher was arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot two other ranchers as they came close to the spring on his property. ( Mr. Doney had a few other altercations over water ). The Doney Park area is named after this colorful pioneer. His home, the historic Ben Doney cabin was moved to the Pioneer History Museum in 1967 and continues to make its home there.Today's Doney Park Water is run by a seven member board of directors. The directors are elected by the members in an annual election held each June. Generally, only two director positions are being filled in any one year. Our board is comprised of volunteers who have chosen to serve us, unpaid, for three-year terms. The day to day operation of the company is under the direct supervision of the General Manager. There is an office staff of six and a field crew of seven, all of whom are working towards one goal-to provide you with safe, clean, high-quality water at a reasonable cost.We welcome your input and encourage you to attend board meetings. If you have an issue you would like to discuss with the board, call our office and let us know ; we'll add you to the agenda! The co-op has seven wells situated throughout our service area. The Coconino Aquifer that we draw out of is approximately 1700 feet deep. Our water is considered hard, ranging from 11.1 to 15.6 grains per gallon, depending on where in the distribution system you live. We do not soften the water, nor do we add anything to it.
