  Nicole J. Tabbut is partner at Pemberton Law’s Detroit Lakes office. Nicole is a member of the Family Law group and primarily practices in the areas of divorce, child custody and parenting time, spousal maintenance and child support, adoption, and family law appellate matters. Nicole also maintains a neutral practice where she is a Rule 114 qualified mediator, parenting time expeditor, parent consultant, and custody evaluator. Nicole also practices in the areas of guardianship and conservatorship.

  Charles Seuntjens is a Shareholder for the Pemberton Law Firm and works out of its Detroit Lakes office. As a member of Pemberton’s Estate Planning and Corporate Law Groups, Charles’ practice focuses on estate planning, oil and gas, guardianship/​conservatorship, business succession, corporate formation and compliance, and trust and probate administration. Charles frequently provides seminars and training on estate planning and corporate formation and compliance throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, and his clients include farm families, small and large business owners and corporations, mineral owners, and executives throughout the region.

  Matthew S. Van Bruggen is a Partner in the Pemberton Law firm and works out of the Wadena, Alexandria, and Park Rapids offices. He began practicing law in 2002 and focuses on the practice areas of civil litigation; including personal injury, wrongful death, motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall, and family law, divorce, real estate, banking law, and health care law. Matt was recognized as a 2010 Minnesota “Rising Star” award issued by Minnesota Law and Politics magazine.

  Sam Rufer is the third generation of Rufer attorneys to work at Pemberton Law and is a partner in the Detroit Lakes office. He practices civil litigation, working mainly in the areas of personal injury, products liability, real estate and business disputes. Sam represents a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small business owners, non-profit organizations, municipalities and individuals. Minnesota Law and Politics Magazine has recognized Sam as a Minnesota “Super Lawyer” in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and as a Minnesota “Rising Star” numerous times.

  Kristi Hastings is a partner at the Fergus Falls office of Pemberton Law, and her practice areas include representing public entities (school, city, and county employers), handling complex employment litigation, human resources support, negotiating collective bargaining agreements on behalf of public employers, defending public entities in litigation matters, as well as handling the myriad of issues that face public employers on a daily basis.
• Sexual Harassment
  On several occasions over the past decade, the Minnesota State Bar Association has selected Josh to teach both on-line and in-person courses for CLE (continuing legal education) credits to other lawyers throughout the state, a recognition that he truly is an expert in the field. For example, in 2018, he taught an online course titled Sexual Harassment, Offensive Behavior and Discrimination in the Workplace. He has also given workplace investigation presentations to public and private entities throughout Minnesota and has taught college courses on the subject for HR renewal credits.

  Rob is a Board Certified Real Property Law Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association. Less than two percent of Minnesota attorneys have received this certification. Rob has been a certified specialist since 1990, and has extensive experience and training in real estate law. Rob is currently a member of the Real Property Council for the Real Estate Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association (its largest Section) and is Chair of the Council for 2019-2020.

  Steve joined Pemberton Law in 1974 and works in the Fergus Falls office. Steve’s practice includes general civil litigation, personal injury, auto and farm accidents, business litigation, professional malpractice, real estate, construction, and aviation. Foremost in Steve's practice of law is his concern for his clients. Every client and every case is important. He has achieved settlements for clients in excess of one million dollars on several occasions.

  Nick serves both the Alexandria and Fergus Falls, as well as travels across the mid-State and North Dakota region, meeting with clients on their estate planning and business succession needs.

  In the community, Steve is a member of United Methodist Church of Peace, member and past president of the Otter-Risers Kiwanis Club, and is past president of Fergus Falls Center for the Arts. Steve is a trustee and past board chair of Lake Region Healthcare Corporation and director, general counsel, and past president of Communicating for America, Inc., a non-profit rural advocacy group which hosts the largest international agricultural exchange program in the country. Steve is past president of the Otter Tail County Historical Society and the Otter Tail County Bar Association. He is an Eagle Scout and is involved in Boy Scouts (where he currently serves as District Finance Chair), and has served on the Fergus Area College Foundation board, the Salvation Army community board, the regional board of KCCM-Minnesota Public Radio and the board of Pioneer Public TV. He is also a trustee of the Roger and Agnes Dell Charitable Trust and is chair of Fergus Falls Downtown Council, Inc. Steve rides annually in Minnesota's MS150 bike ride.

  Nick focuses his law practice in estate planning, probate law, real estate law, land use law, business succession, agricultural law and business/corporate law. Nick represents a variety of clients, including individuals, banks, businesses and farming families. Nick is intricately involved in drafting complex estate plans and business succession plans, including the formation of family trusts and limited liability companies, corporations and partnerships, in addition to drafting insurance trusts.
