Founded in 1865, The Children's Study Home is a nonprofit agency that serves children, adolescents and families with special needs throughout the Greater Springfield area. It offers a variety of residential, family, community and educational services for individuals affected with domestic violence, neglect, trauma, and physical and sexual abuse. The agency administers SHARP I, which is a treatment program that includes assistance in the areas of anger management, fire-setting, substance abuse, sexually inappropriate behavior, and individual and family therapy for adolescent males. The Children's Study Home also maintains the Kathleen Thornton School, which provides a variety of individualized educational services for special needs children.
