Searching for a place in the DC area that services small engines does not return a lot of results and those that do have mixed reviews. B/c of the this and the nature of how the repair industry works - give us money up front and then we will tell you what's wrong and how much more you owe us (I understand that they need to do this in order to be profitable)- I was very hesitant about bringing my mower in and was considering just getting a new one. After seeing the quality of new mowers that were under $450, I decided to just take it in for a repair.

I took it in on a Friday around noon and as I was walking in saw a sign that said they would be closed on Saturday for family wedding. It was nice to see that it was a small family business, but also somewhat surprising considering I was thinking of going on Saturday and would have been very frustrated to get there after loading the mower into my Jeep and driving from Capitol Hill.

After my surprise of the sign, I entered the store and was greeted by a friendly person behind the desk. He explained to me the pricing structure and then helped me unload the mower from my Jeep which was very refreshing. He told me how much the cost was on average for a mower, took my deposit and reminded me that they were closed the next day and that it should be ready early the following week. Off I went, but to my surprise, they called me the next morning to tell me it was ready and that they would be open until 11AM.

I happily drove down to the store where I was charged exactly what they estimated and what seemed like a fair price for the work (replacing a carburetor) and they helped me load it into my Jeep. The mower is back to new for a reasonable price.

The Appliance Fix-It folks were incredibly nice to me in person and on the phone. I dont know if it is worth it financially to bring items such as electric shavers, cheap lamps etc, but for more expensive items like stand mixers and lawn mowers, these guys are great.

I just wish this store was in DC, closer to where I live, but a trek to Falls Church is worth it: this store is an answer to your prayers and the service excellent. They fixed my 70s lamp in less than a day for 35 bucks, parts included. I wish I had known that they also sell replacement carafes for coffee machines and other odd things that are sometimes hard to find, even on eBay. I highly recommend them to anyone who hates to throw away things that just need a little help to keep going.

So I got a new Dyson vacuum for Christmas. I loved my Dyson. I then broke my Dyson. Or should I say that the Dyson is so powerful that it sucked part of itself right up!! Luckily it was under warranty and the Dyson people sent me to Appliance Fix-It.

The guys that work there were super friendly and polite. One even came out and helped me carry my Dyson into their shop when I was struggling to get it out of my trunk. They took down my info, but oh snap! There was no approval from Dyson as was supposed to arrive. No problem. They called Dyson for me right there and got it squared away. Told me it would be about 3 days.

I'll be darned if I didn't get a call back that same day in the afternoon telling me my Dyson was ready! Now my Dyson runs like new and I'm the vacuuming fiend I always knew I could be with the right equipment.

Appliance Fix-It is a small little shop that sells vacuums, but also does repair on everything from lamps to typewriters (they still make these?) to scooters and lawnmowers. Oh and of course is an approved Dyson fixer.

YAY for Appliance Fix-It! I highly recommend them for any of your small appliance needs.

This place is great! They fix EVERYTHING! From coffee pots, to mens' razors, to vacuum cleaners, to lawn mowers!

I took in my vacuum, and they had repaired the problem and replaced the belt within 24 hours! I couldn't have asked for a better service.

The only issue is that they close at 5 pm, so you have to find a time during the day to get there.

I have a WaterPic which is perfectly fine except the "hose" from the reservoir broke. Hated to throw it away. These guys fixed it while I waited! Cool.

Called this morning, and they came same day to fix my super noisy washing machine. Turns out it was just a screw missing - it was really refreshing that they didn't try to scam me and make me buy a new motor or something crazy. I even had issues with my phone when they called me back to let me know they were on their way. When we finally got in touch again, they came out after hours to make sure it was fixed same day. Overall, really great service and would highly recommend them!

I LOVE this company. i called them to have my washer repaired. they were available that day, and also the technician works until 9pm so it's easy to get him to come by after work. then he even fixed my screen door which was literally falling out of the door frame and that i had tried to fix myself a number of times.

i called again a few days later because my dryer was broken. it was an easy fix and the same technician did it really quick and again came over in the evening after i got home from work. then he noticed i had a treadmill down in the basement that hadn't been put together and asked if i wanted him to assemble it. i was really grateful because i would MUCH rather pay to have it done then try to attempt to do it myself.

the tech is a jack of all trades and he does a great job. their prices are also more than reasonable.

I love my Dyson. I need my Dyson. I can't live without my Dyson. Then, one day, my beloved Dyson decided that it has worked way too hard for me and needed some rest.

I panicked, of course. I called Dyson since it was still covered under warranty, and they referred me to AFI. They were courteous, super quick, and got the job done well. Now, I have my Dyson back again.

Another plus - they play Kenny Chesney as background music. What else can I ask for?

Appliance Fix-it is great! This is one of those non-chain places where the people who work there actually know what they're talking about. There should be more places like this.

I had two lamps that needed minor repairs; one needed a new bulb socket, and the other a new in-line switch. Each lamp started at $12.99 plus labor, so it came out in the end to be about $45 for both lamps. That's better than I'd pay if I'd had to replace the lamps altogether. (And how cool is it to find a place that still repairs things like lamps?) Also, when the guy had first told me what the one lamp was going to cost, I mentioned that it was going to be a bit more than I had bought the lamp for in the first place and that I'd have to consider, so he came up with a second-best solution for the switch (works just as fine, just not as pretty), that cost half as much. That was nice. AND, they were done a day earlier than they'd said, so I got my lamps back faster than I'd planned on.

Recently my Dyson-17 went on the fritz and I came across this place. They were great. I dropped it off on a Saturday with a $40 deposit and they called me on Monday to give me the diagnosis and cost estimate. By Wednesday I had already received another call that it was fixed and I could pick it up anytime. I wouldn't suggest going on a Saturday as there were a ton of people there. Everything from people getting window screens and vacuums fixed to some weird guy trying to sell an old used iron. Anyways, it wasn't cheap to get it fixed BUT it was better than buying a new $400 vacuum. The owner was really nice and they provided me a 30 day warranty on the work they completed. They also cleaned the entire vacuum out and it seems the thing works better now than it did when I bought it new.

These people are great. I took an espresso machine in to have fixed. I thought it needed an entirely new power cable, as I had stupidly laid it over an open flame on my oven and melted it. They quoted me $75 on the phone. Still, that was cheaper than replacing the machine.

They took one look at it and told me it should only cost about $18--all they had to do was cut off the melted part and put a new plug on the end. They could have easily charged me the $75, since they recognized my case from the phone call I made an hour or two before.

They are the only people in the area with any interest in fixing small appliances. Very friendly and honest. And fast. My machine was fixed in about 15 minutes while I waited.

It's worth the trip down from DC if you want to have a small appliance repaired and not replace it.

Appliance Fix-It does a great job with any household or yard 'gadget' repairs! I've taken our lawn mower and a window screen to be fixed. Let's just say they revived our John Deere, when it was on the brink of never starting again. It's fairly priced and they even picked up our lawn mower for us, since we are close to the location of their shop.

I highly recommend them to anyone!

Great! Work was done quickly, the machine ran well and it was clean with a full tank of gas.

My electric (corded) lawnmower suddenly starting tripping the breakers where we plugged it in. Contacted them and confirmed that they would happily check out a Black & Decker. Dropped it off and paid my $50 diagnostic fee. They advised up front that it might be two weeks as it was the high season for lawn mower repair.

Ten days later I got a call explaining the repair needs and asking for confirmation that I wanted the repair to proceed. I confirmed that I did and was told I could pick it up the following day. Picked it up two days later. They did the motor repair, sharpened the blades and gave it a general clean-up as well as tune-up. It was all at what I would term a reasonable price. It has been working perfectly since them (60 day warranty seems not required...but nice to have!)

I had none of the issues that some other reviewers have had, but I suspect it depends on how busy they are and their repair tech's availability. For me, I would absolutely recommend them.

I received outstanding service for my carpet steamer. The heating element needed servicing and I was pleased to have the problem taken care of so promptly and courteously. Mike knew exactly what was was wrong and and was able to resolve the problem. I appreciated his knowledge and skill, and also his extra effort to take care of the issue while I waited. I thought I would have to leave the machine and pick it up later, but that was not necessary. Great customer service.

I just needed a couple small parts replaced for my mower. They had exactly what I needed and I was in and out in 2 minutes!

Josh, Andre absolutely awesome! Popped in and had blade sharpened on a mower and several keys made in about 10 mins on a BUSY Sat - excellent service!

Had a very positive first experience with this company. My electric snowblower had stopped working. They checked it, determined it needed a new motor, contacted the manufacturer and worked through the process of the manufacturer shipping me a new one. They were very responsive to my inquiries regarding status.

This place is great its quick and cheap.... i go here for all my needs... their friendly tooo
