Provided by DexKnowsI moved to Charles Gardens from another retirement home, I LOVE IT HERE!!!!!. Everyone is so kind and helpful here, always smiling and talking with Residents. Anytime I need anything someone is always there with a smile. No place is going to be like my own house and yard, but this is as close as I can get, with a whole new FAMILY.

Provided by DexKnowsThe staff has been very rude to my father-in-law telling other residents that he is demented and they shouldn't talk to him! The activity director treats residents as if they are children.
As a staff member of Charles Gardens the woman that wrote the bad review was upset with the new placement of the dumpster, and couldn't get her way on leaving it where it was, which blocked 11 Residents rooms. What she failed to mention was that her parents still live there, and refuse to move. She has been very rude to anyone that would listen.

My grandmother lived at Charles gardens for several years and couldn't have been happier with the staff and the facility! They treated us all like family and took great care of my grandmother!! She felt right at home!! They have many activities that keep the resident busy and entertained.

Provided by DexKnowsMy sister and I had the difficult task of finding a "new home" for our parents. They had lived in their family home for 45 years. Where do you start? We looked in the phone book and found several different places. Fortunately, we went to Charles Gardens first. What a wonderful home like atmosphere. We were greeted by very friendly employees that were at the front desk.....they were all laughing and teasing one another and including the residents sitting in the foyer with them. We felt right at home!We had lunch (which was fantastic) and then we toured the facility. All questions we had were answered with up front and honest answers. They even offered names of other facilities in the area that we may consider and tour.As you can tell by this review, we placed our parents at Charles Gardens. They have been there for several years now and we couldn't want a nicer home and extended family.Thank you for the opportunity to allow us to review our "new Home" online.Best of luck locating a home for your loved ones and you must visit Charles Gardens before making that important decision.

Provided by DexKnowsMy uncle has resided at Charles Garden for six years. He and my family are extremely happy! The staff knows everyone by their first names, knows there likes and dislikes in the dining room. Staff always has a smile when you walk through the doors, and knows most of the family memebers by their first name. Its a very friendly family atmosphere. I would highly recommend them to anyone who truely wants the best for their family member. They have been around since 1986, one of the oldest and in my opinion the best. I do know the family that wrote the bad review about the dumpster, and unfortunately the whole story is not told. The dumpster was moved so it would no longer impact 11 patios and will add another sitting area that all the Residents will be able to enjoy. The new area where the dumpster sits, is not blocking anyones view of the beautiful grounds, in my opinion a perfect location.

Provided by DexKnowsThe ownner, Kevin C. Brown is an absentee owner and will not allow is staff to give contact information except to say he resides in another state. We requested the staff have Mr. Brown contact us regarding concerns we had over the planned placement of a dumpster next to my parents' patio and he has yet to do so, although he calims on citysearch to be invested in the comfort of the residents. Inside, in many areas the carpet smells and the hallways are dimly lit. We were not happy when my parents decided to move in and I wish I had insisted they find a better place. The other residents are nice but I wish they had a nicer place to live as well. Sometimes I feel the elderly settle and are unable to stand up for themselves. As this is a for profit company, I worry that the bottom line supercedes good service. It seems sad that this is the case when elderly peoples' happiness and comfort is at stake.

Provided by DexKnowsAfter visiting Charles Gardens with my family member I found a staff member yelling at an elderly woman, a filthy dining room where the staff called my family member was called sweetie and granny and what looked like a landfill in the back . The food was passable but the unpleasant odor (from the carpet?) made us loose our appetities.

When I visited a family friend I found this facility to be smelly, dark and unclean. I witnessed a staff member yelling at a resident - is that necessary? Where is the kindness for the elderly in our community. There must be a better living situation!
