The Fairfax County Police Department protects persons and property by providing law enforcement and public safety services, while promoting community involvement, stability and order through service, assistance and visibility. It maintains a citizens police academy that offers training programs related to local laws, defensive tactics, firearms instruction, patrol procedures, first aid and investigations. The Fairfax County Police Department offers a variety of services, such as community policing and statistics, criminal reporting and investigations, domestic violence prevention and street crime interdiction. The department also provides several support services, including gun registration, fingerprinting, animal control, and traffic and parking law enforcement. The Fairfax County Police Department has been operational for more than 60 years and maintains a district station in Fairfax, Va.
