- Estate PlanningGarland had never been to Evansville prior to accepting an associate position in 1982 with then prominent local estate planning attorney, William D. Powell. Originally from Clark County, Indiana, Garland quickly found Evansville and the civility of its legal community very much to his liking. Garland became a law partner with Mr. Powell in 1986, but their partnership lasted only a few months due to Mr. Powell’s unexpected death in early 1987. It was at that time that Garland and John B. Whinrey merged their separate practices resulting in what would eventually become our present firm.
