There aren't too many restaurants in Gates County, but this is one of the best. I used to bring the barbecue back to Texas when it was just a barbecue joint and hangout for the local law enforcement. The restaurant is larger now and has a much broader menu including homestyle fried chicken and Southern-style vegetables. The dining area is bright and rife with locals during lunch or dinner. But I kind of miss that shack that just served tangy Carolina-style pork barbecue.
