Mel Davis was elected Delta County Surveyor in 1972, a position he still holds today. During this time, Mr. Davis instituted a remonumentation program of G.L.O survey corners on the county level. To date, over 6,000 corner positions have been recovered and/or restored to present day requirements. Mr. Davis was elected to the board of directors for the Michigan Society of Registered Land Surveyors in 1974, a position which he held until 1982. As a member of the board of directors, he was instrumental in the development of the Standards of Practice for Michigan Land Surveyors. Typical, everyday services provided by Davis/Wanic Land Surveyors, P.C. include; mortgage surveys for various lending institutions, consultants to numerous law firms and title companies concerning land title issues, boundary surveys for the general public, topographic surveys for architechural and engineering firms, horizontal and vertical control for aerial photography, subdivision design and layout and numerous G.L.O. re-tracement surveys for the United States Forest Service. In 1993, Davis/Wanic Land Surveyors, P.C. was awarded the contract to recover, reestablish and monument all of the original survey corners established in Delta County, a project that is still ongoing.
