Creative Countertops in Englewood, Ohio was hired by our kitchen & bath supplier to fabricate and install granite countertops in the kitchen of our new-construction home.

Following is a review from our personal experience working with Creative Countertops. This is solely our experience, and it was in our opinion, awful.

Approximately six hours after the installation, the seam where two slabs of granite meet turned orange. We had no idea why, and, we have no orange in our granite which made the discoloration in the seam look even worse. It looked absolutely horrible from our perspective. In addition, we noticed the caulk they ran along the top of our backsplashes was poorly done. It was very sloppy and extended over a half-inch above the top of our backsplashes and up onto our newly-painted walls. We had shiny smears on the walls that ran along the entire length of the backsplashes. We ended up having to repaint the entire kitchen between the tops of the backsplashes and the upper cabinets.

Joe, the owner of Creative Countertops, came out a week after the installation to look at the seam. He said his crew appeared to have gotten in a hurry and used too much hardener in the epoxy to speed up the curing process. He said he would have his crew come back out, heat up the seam with a heating pad, and gently dig out the top layer of epoxy and redo it.

When the crew came to repair the seam, they dug out the epoxy with large razor knives and did not heat the seam at all. When we questioned this, they said it was just as easy that way to get the epoxy out that they needed to remove.

Their razor knives chipped the edges of the seam since they were digging through hard epoxy, and as a result, the seam looked rough and jagged and felt like coarse sandpaper. Additionally, there was also now a shiny, wavy residue that would not clean up all along both sides of the seam. It looked terrible. It was very visible. One professional who saw pictures we took called it “butt-ugly”.

Creative Countertops refused to do anymore repair work. We spent over $6,200 for this countertop job!

After searching for over six months, we finally found two granite fabricators who were willing to repair a job done by another company. We had someone from each of these companies come to our home to give us estimates. Both said the seam was in such bad condition that they would need to remove the two slabs of granite, refabricate a new slab moving the seam over 8" because the seam was not only in bad condition, but it was very poorly placed, and then reinstall the granite. The company we chose to do the work did a wonderful job. This repair cost us over $2,500. We sent a copy of the paid bill to Creative Countertops and asked for reimbursement since it was because of their refusal to do the proper repair work that we had to go to another company, but Creative Countertops refused to do that as well.

Needless to say, for us, Creative Countertops was extremely frustrating to deal with and they took no responsibility for doing a job which in our opinion was poorly done, and one that cost us an additional $2,500 to fix. Our kitchen countertops now look beautiful, NO thanks to Creative Countertops.

We did not find Creative Countertops to be a reputable company that did quality work and stood behind their work. Customer satisfaction also did not seem to be important to them based on our experience.
