Our family used The Elkton and Lancaster County Right at Home services for about three months to take care of our mother. Although the owners talk a good line, the reality of it is that they do not have the quality help they advertise. Of six different caregivers, we found only one who was able to cook a decent meal for Mom. One of them had no idea, even, what a measuring cup was for. If you want more than canned or frozen meals, you will be disappointed. One substitute caregiver was so old and fragile she could not possibly have helped physically; fortunately a member of the family was visiting from out of as she literally sat in a chair for her entire shift. The final caregiver we had did not drive, though driving people to appointments is something they profess to do. When the office people drove for her, they tried to charge us additionally for time and gas. In addition, as we found out more and more, that caregiver was extremely controlling - for example, would not even let Mom go outside on the deck, though there was no reason not to, actively kept friends from visiting Mom, and yelled whenever Mom did not get dressed in the way the caregiver thought she should. In the eyes of the law she truly could have been charged with elder abuse. Fortunately Mom told us what was going on before the situation escalated further.
