Started in 1925, the business was first operated by the Sloane family in Northeast Philadelphia. In 1978, Pat Stanton became the owner. We have expanded into the suburban and center city areas. Today, Sloane Moving services the entire five-county area. Long-distance moves along the East Coast can also be arranged. If you are moving within the Philadelphia area, it is a local move and charged by the hour. There are different rates depending on the size of the move, with two- to six-man crews available. We offer local and long-distance moving, packing and unpacking, and storage, whether short- or long-term. Sloane Moving and Storage moves homes, offices, and apartments. We have trained men and women who can pack and unpack your household goods. A ready supply of packing cartons, paper, and tape is available for sale at our warehouse. We will be happy to provide any instructions necessary for the job. Remember, all fragile, small, and loose items should be pre-packed for moving. We do provide this service for our customers upon request. When our men arrive the day of the move, it is to the customer's benefit that everything is ready to go. When packing, one rule of thumb to keep in mind is: the heavier the item to be packed, the smaller the box. This is why books and papers should always be packed in small cartons. Likewise, pillows, bedding, and clothing can go in larger cartons. On a local move, furniture drawers can stay full if containing soft goods (clothing, linens, etc.) Again, no breakables should be left in drawers. Appliances should be disconnected beforehand if possible.
