- Oral Cancer ScreeningOral cancer affects tens of thousands of Americans every year. As with most cancers, the key to beating the disease is catching it before it progresses to a later stage. With early detection from a routine oral cancer screening, there is a 90% successful rate of cure after diagnosis.

- Dental SealantsA: Â A sealant is a plastic material that is usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (premolars and molars). This plastic resin bonds into the depressions and grooves (pits and fissures) of the chewing surfaces of back teeth. The sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acids and guarding against disease-causing bacteria.
- Fillings
- Resin CompositeAre you embarrassed about your smile because of decayed, disfigured, or discolored teeth? If so, you may be a good candidate for composite resins, also known as tooth-colored fillings or restorations. When the decay has been removed from the tooth, it is replaced with “filling†material. The new tooth-colored material is bonded to the teeth for a stronger restoration. In the past, amalgam (silver) fillings were placed into the cleaned-out portion of the tooth. However, with new advancements in dentistry, you can now have tooth-colored fillings instead of silver fillings, resulting in a longer-lasting, brighter, whiter smile.
- VeneersBonding refers to the placement of tooth-colored resin to correct chipped and broken teeth, discolored teeth, and, in some cases, spaces between teeth. Bonding is generally considered more conservative than veneers or other cosmetic dentistry. The benefits of bonding include the ability to maintain the natural structure of the tooth and the ability to color and sculpt the resin to create natural looking teeth. Like a natural tooth, the resin may stain with the use of coffee or other staining foods.
- Crowns“I am serious when I say it is enjoyable going to the dentist at Elgin Family Dentistry! They are friendly and display a happiness seen only when people enjoy what they do. If I need to have something done on my teeth, Dr. Kingsley thoroughly explains the why’s & how’s in terms easily understood. While Dr. Kingsley and her assistant, April, are working on my teeth, they keep me informed as to what they are doing. They both even came in when the office was closed to work on my crown! Without a doubt, Elgin Family Dentistry has positively changed my ‘going to the dentist’ attitude.” -Rita
- BridgesWhen teeth are missing, your smile undergoes significant changes. Missing teeth can cause you to chew differently and may also cause mouth pain. And, as your remaining teeth work to compensate for the loss, gaps and spaces form that only make the situation worse. A porcelain bridge, custom designed by your Dr. Kingsley or Dr. Peters, will keep your smile aligned and your bite functional. Bridges are anchored to existing teeth on either side of the missing tooth. They are semi-permanent (meaning they can only be affixed or removed by a dentist) and are a long-term restorative solution to your damaged smile.
- Dental Bonding
- Restorative DentistryYour smile is designed for both beauty and function. Injury, lifestyle choices, or just the passing of time can take their toll on your teeth, gums, and other supportive structures. Restorative dentistry gets your smile back on track...and keeps it there!
- Root Canal Treatment€¨A:  At an emergency visit, you can expect our doctors to provide a limited exam, putting our focus on the tooth giving you pain. At this visit, they will usually require a diagnostic X-ray or two and will ask that you list all symptoms, as well as a time frame of the toothache. After the diagnosis is given, we will get you on your way to being pain-free―whether by referring you to an endodontist (root canal) or an oral surgeon, by providing you with antibiotic or pain medication (depending on situation), or by scheduling an appointment with us.
- Deep CleaningAt each and every cleaning, our hygienists will perform a complete periodontal assessment to determine which type of cleaning will be best for your oral health. This could include a traditional cleaning or a gross debridement to remove heavy calculus resulting from many years without a dental cleaning. Sometimes a deeper cleaning is necessary when it is determined that there is bone loss surrounding the tooth. This deeper cleaning is called Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy. Deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) reduces inflammation and bacterial debris below the gumline. This provides a smooth, clean surface to which the gum can reattach, reducing pocket depth.
- DenturesAfter a tooth loss, your appearance transforms, and your confidence can fade. With dentures, you can regain your confident, normal life even after the loss of your teeth. Offering only the most advanced, removable dentures to best fit you, Dr. Kingsley and Dr. Peters will guide you every step of the way. Our team will create custom dentures made especially for you, helping you select the shade and shape. You walk away with great fitting dentures that look just like natural teeth, and smiling is just the beginning.
- Dental ImplantsWhile typical dentures shift and require the use of denture adhesives to keep them in place, implants fit solidly, reducing the problems associated with traditional dentures, such as gum sores and difficulty speaking and chewing. Implant-supported dentures distribute your biting pressure more like natural teeth than traditional dentures, stimulating the supportive structures of your teeth and preventing the bone and soft tissues from shrinking away. You can replace an entire set of teeth with beautiful, natural-looking implants.
- Oral Surgery
- Tooth ExtractionsSometimes injury or decay extensively damages a tooth. And, in certain cases, extraction is the proper treatment option to start you on the path toward complete dental health. Dr. Kingsley and Dr. Peters will do their best to gently extract your troublesome tooth; however, in some cases, it may be necessary to refer you to an oral surgeon for the extraction. Your dentist will then give you treatment options for replacing the tooth to complete your beautiful smile once again.
- Braces“As a kid, I was fortunate that the dental office my parents chose was staffed by a very kind, gentle, and inviting team. I only had good experiences there (even though I had MANY baby teeth extracted and years of braces!). I never feared going to the dentist! Now, it’s one of my biggest goals here at Elgin Family Dentistry, providing that same experience for all of our patients! One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing patients of all ages that are HAPPY to be at the dentist.”
- Teeth WhiteningYou may be quite happy with the size and alignment of your teeth, but dentist-supervised tooth whitening gives you the dazzling smile you always wanted. Tooth whitening is safe, effective, and long-lasting. At Elgin Family Dentistry, Dr. Kingsley and Dr. Peters trust the Opalescence tooth whitening system.
- Cosmetic DentistryImagine a whiter, more brilliant smile! Porcelain veneers are a conservative, cosmetic dentistry approach that makes a dramatic difference in the appearance of your teeth. If you have chipped teeth; crooked teeth; gaps in teeth; or, dull, stained teeth, veneers may be the perfect solution for you. Dr. Kingsley or Dr. Peters will skillfully bond and shape thin strips of porcelain to your teeth, creating a straight, brilliant smile that enhances both your appearance and your self-esteem.
- General DentistryWith cosmetic dentistry to brighten your smile, restorative dentistry to repair your smile, and general dentistry to maintain your smile while preventing future issues, Elgin Family Dentistry offers the scope of services you need to ensure your health.
