- CentipedesScorpions are nocturnal. They often ambush their prey, lying in wait as they sense its approach. They consume all types of insects, spiders, centipedes, and other scorpions. Larger scorpions may feed on vertebrates, such as smaller lizards, snakes, and mice if they are able to subdue them. They capture their prey with their pedipalps, paralyzing them with their venom as well if necessary. The immobilized prey is then subjected to an acid spray that dissolves the tissues, allowing the scorpion to suck up the remains.
- ScorpionsScorpions are easily recognized by their characteristic shape. All scorpions have a long, slender body with a five-segmented tail that can be arched over the back. The tail ends in a bulb-like poison gland or stinger. Scorpions have four pairs of legs and two large pincer-bearing arms (pedipalps) in front. Scorpions are well equipped to defend themselves or attack prey with their pincers and stinger. Between the last pair of legs is a comb-like structure (pectines) that is used to identify surface textures and to detect prey.
- HornetsNests should be eliminated with great care and in a specific manner. When contemplating extermination of a yellowjacket or wasp nest, pleased be informed that you are entering a DANGER ZONE – there is no pest control scenario more frightening than a ‘blown’ wasp or hornet treatment. Consequently, it is often prudent to contact a professional, especially when access to the nest is difficult.
- YellowjacketsDue to their large colony size and defensive nature,yellow-jackets are more aggressive than paper wasps. Yellowjackets have effective means of defending their colonies. They often have “guards” at their nest entrances, and the colony can easily be disturbed by rapid movement and vibrations near the nest. For this reason, one will almost certainly be stung if a lawn mower or trimmer is used near a yellowjacket nest. In some species, an alarm chemical is released upon stinging that causes nest mates to join the attack.
- MitesScorpions are not classified as insects but as arachnids. This makes them close relatives of ticks, mites, and spiders. There are approximately 50 species of scorpions that occur in the continental United States, but most of these are found in the Southwest. The exact number of species in Oklahoma has been estimated at between three and five, but only one species is common to the entire state, the Bark Scorpion.

- Palmetto BugsThey are despicable little bugs, aren’t they? From the small German cockroach to the massive Palmetto bugs of the southeast, they are all disgusting, full of germ, and hard to shake. Cockroaches are notorious sewer dwellers. So, they bring all those yucky sewer germs into your home, often near your food. Additionally, they multiply extremely fast. If you see a few roaches in a week, there are likely hundreds more coming.
- SnakesAlthough their venom is extremely potent, (15 times more potent than that of the rattlesnakes; it is also reported to be much more potent than the venom of cobras and coral snakes), these spiders are not especially large. Compared to many other species of spiders, their chelicerae are not very large or powerful. In the case of a mature female, the hollow, needle shaped part of each chelicera, the part that penetrates the skin, is approximately 1.0 mm (about.04 inch) long, long enough to inject the venom to a point where it can be harmful. The males, being much smaller, injects far less venom with smaller chelicerae. The actual amount injected, even by a mature female, is very small in physical volume. When this small amount of venom is diffused throughout the body of a healthy, mature human, it usually does not amount to a fatal dose (though it can produce the very unpleasant symptoms of latrodectism).
