- Skin Condition and Allergy TreatmentIf your pet is frequently itching, scratching or biting his skin, he may be suffering from an allergy or skin condition. Veterinary dermatology treats common skin conditions and pet allergies, addressing both the underlying cause for your pet’s discomfort as well as providing immediate relief from painful symptoms. Our veterinarians have significant experience treating pet allergies and skin conditions. Our doctors and staff frequently attend dermatology continuing education courses and other training to ensure that we are offering the highest quality of skin care. Our advanced diagnostic tests make it easier for our veterinary dermatology team to precisely identify the skin condition affecting your pet and take immediate steps to relieve your pet’s pain. There are some exciting new tools & medications available for treating pet allergies. One of the most recently approved oral medications is called Apoquel, which is a pill given on a daily basis. This medication has been shown to be very effective in reducing the itch associated with pet allergies. We also have an injectable medication, called Cytopoint. This is an injection given in the clinic, and has been very effective in reducing the itch symptoms for 1-2 months following an injection. This makes compliance much easier and reduces the need for administration of a daily medication. Give us a call at 405-359-6301, and our staff would be happy to discuss these and other allergy treatments.

- Bacterial and Viral Infection TreatmentYour dog or cat can suffer from the same seasonal allergies that affect humans. Allergic dermatitis is one of the most common conditions affecting pets. Pollen, mold, ragweed and dust mites may trigger pet allergies. Rather than experiencing watery eyes or congestion, however, pets suffer from itchy skin. Repeated biting and scratching creates irritated, moist skin that is susceptible to secondary bacterial infections. Prompt treatment for pet allergies is essential to relieving a pet’s painful itching symptoms and preventing secondary skin infections or more complex dermatological problems.
- Ear Infection TreatmentIt's never too early to think about a grooming routine for your new puppy. Grooming keeps your pet feeling and looking its best and can reduce the risk of skin and ear infections. Not sure where to start? These tips will help you keep your puppy clean and comfortable.
- Arthritis TreatmentThe treatment of osteoarthritis in pets can be very rewarding for us, as we get to see pets who are suffering with significant pain often times return to a much more normal quality of life and start enjoying their regular activities again. These are just a few examples of the available options, there are many more treatments available. If your pet has slowed down, or does not enjoy the same activities he or she once did, give us a call at 405-359-6301. We would be happy to help you with a plan to help your pet.
- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentFor instance, we have several medications, such as Deramaxx, Rimadyl, Metacam, and Previcox, which are all NSAIDS, and can be extremely helpful in treating joint pain. There is another newer medication, called Galliprant, which is an option for those pets who may not be able to tolerate one of the other NSAIDS. Some of the natural options for improving joint health, include Glyoflex and Movoflex, which can be extremely beneficial. Adequan is an injectable medication that is often given as a series of injections.
- Thyroid Disease TreatmentExcessive shedding can be a symptom of an underlying health problem, like an allergy, infection, immune disease, or kidney, liver, or thyroid problem. Some dogs lose more hair than usual if they're stressed or are experiencing side effects from medications. If you notice a dramatic increase in shedding, it's time to schedule a visit with the veterinarian.
- Heart Disease TreatmentOlder pets, like older people, are more likely to develop health problems. Arthritis, heart disease, cancer, dental problems, and cognitive issues (like dementia) are the most common health conditions in older dogs, according to DVM360.
- Kidney Disease TreatmentTake Your Pet to the Veterinarian. Your pet's veterinarian can provide emergency care if your pet's temperature doesn't drop or its condition doesn't improve in 10 - 15 minutes. Once at the veterinary office or hospital, your pet will receive intravenous fluids and other treatments, such as oxygen or medications to stabilize blood pressure. Your veterinarian may also draw blood, which will be used to determine if the liver or kidney damage occurred as a result of the heatstroke.
