- Child SupportA Chapter 13 bankruptcy is a repayment arrangement in which you propose to repay your creditors over the next three to five years. Some creditors will receive more than others. You can use a Chapter 13 to catch up on your house payments, pay off your car, pay back the IRS and even repay back child support. At the end of the case, you receive a discharge that wipes out any remaining debt that you would have discharged in a Chapter 7.
- Spousal SupportAre your creditors taking money out of your paycheck or your bank account? If your creditors have already sued you and obtained a court judgment, you may already be feeling the pain of a writ of garnishment. Bankruptcy will stop all garnishments (except child support or alimony), and in some cases, you might even be able to get some of your money back.
- DUI/DWIFor 6 points within 3 years, you’ll have to pay $150, plus $25 for each additional point. For your first DWI, you’ll have to pay $1,000. Worse, those aren’t just one-time charges. You’ll have to pay every year for three years. So, you’ll pay a total of $450 over 3 years for having 6 points. For a DWI, you’ll pay a total of $3,000 over 3 years.
