It maintains a patrol division that provides 24-hour bike and car patrol services, as well as traffic safety and accident investigation services. The Vilas County Sheriff s Department s canine unit performs narcotics detection, evidence searches, tracking and criminal apprehension functions. It provides safety and security services for judges, counselors, witnesses and the public during courtroom trials. The department operates a corrections division that provides various programs and activities for inmates, such as alcohol and drug counseling, anger management and operates a library.
