Opal Services, based in Eagan, Minn., provides community-based living environments for developmentally disabled and mentally ill clients. Its residential-based services in an adult foster care setting include therapeutic activities, assistance, counseling, training, supervision, and monitoring in the areas of self-care, sensory and motor development. The services also include the development of interpersonal skills, communication, socialization, reduction or elimination of maladaptive behavior, and community participation and mobility. The semi-independent living services include training and assistance to persons in managing money, preparing meals, shopping, personal appearance and hygiene. The institution also offers respite care services, including day, overnight, in-home and out-of-town services. Additionally, it offers rehabilitative mental health services, such as the teaching of basic living and social skills, community intervention and medication education programs.
